Directions

  1. Slide pointer to the bottom of the scale (A).
  2.  Hold device horizontally in front of your mouth (B).
  3. Sit up straight or stand upright. With mouth fully open exhale out fully then inhale as deeply as possible.
  4. Seal your lips firmly around the mouthpiece. Keep holding the meter horizonal (C).
  5. Take care that the tongue or teeth do not obstruct the airflow. A “spitting” action or coughing will give false readings.
  6. Blow out as HARD and as FAST as possible for 2 – 3 seconds until the lungs are completely empty.
  7. Record the result (D).
  8. Repeat steps 1 to 7 three times and record the highest reading.
  9. Take action according to your personal respiratory management plan. The intended purpose of the Welcare Breatheasy Peak Flow Meter is to measure peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) in adults and children aged 5 years and over. It measures the maximum rate at which air is expelled from the lungs. The device may be used within the home and in a professional healthcare setting.

Warnings

• Users unable to complete a forced expiration, or those showing signs of severe respiratory distress. • The following conditions are relative contraindications. The conditions do not preclude using the device; however, caution is required: - Acute myocardial infarction within one week. - Hypotension or severe hypertension. - Moderate to severe arrythmia. - Heart failure. - Uncontrolled pulmonary hypertension. - Acute enlarged right ventricle of the heart (cor pulmonale). - Unstable pulmonary embolism. - Syncope related to forced expiration/cough. - Increased intraocular/intracranial pressure. - Cerebral aneurysm. - Brain, thoracic or abdominal surgery within past 4 weeks. - Eye, sinus or middle ear surgery (or infection) within past one week. - Recent concussion with ongoing symptoms. - Late term pregnancy. - Presence of pneumothorax - Active or suspected respiratory or systemic infection (including tuberculosis). - Hemoptysis, significant oral secretions, oral lesions or oral bleeding.
